The Littoral regional head office of the National Social Insurance Fund in Bonanjo, Douala was in flames on Sunday 8th May 2011.
Fumes of thick black smoke were spotted flying high from the sixth floor of the building; this warranted the prompt intervention of fire fighters.
According to accounts of security officials guarding the building, the fire broke out at about 10 am Sunday morning.
The officials saluted the immediate intervention of the fire brigade that brought in four fire extinguishing trucks.
The fire-fighters during the rescue efforts had to deal with the difficulties of reaching at their target, several meters above the ground this warranted further assistance from the airport and the Naval Base rescue teams.
After several minutes of frantic efforts the fire was contained but two offices had already been reduced to ashes.
The General Manager of National Social Insurance Fund was informed of the incident. He travelled to Douala to have an on the spot assessment of the damages caused.
Security officials have opened investigation to establish the cause of the accident. As of Monday worked had resumed at the office and the General Manager assured the public that the damage was minimal.
